The homeless man and 'Let no man steal your Thyme' - by Gardener John England

Once, on my way home from work I met an old homeless man and began speaking to him, he was singing this song. As we began speaking about Islam he said something about my hijab in relation to the song. I wasn't listening to him singing prior to speaking to him but he basically explained how the song is a warning song to young women, don't let men steal your time and thyme (as in the herb). Thyme stands for hope and chastity. Interesting how old England was, they would have folk warning songs for their young girls, reminding them to remain dignified and chaste. Funny if you look at it in contrast to today...
